Announcement re: traffic circle

The following is a message regarding the Potomac Greens traffic circle from our HOA president, Ron Lafond:

Dear PG Homeowners Association members and community residents,

As you are aware, we have been working towards a settlement with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) regarding the traffic circle after WMATA filed a declaration of taking / condemnation of the circle in federal court in early April. Effective Wednesday, May 1, the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ratified the agreement between the Potomac Greens Homeowners Association and WMATA.

More details, including the full settlement documents, will be released as soon as the monies are received, thus finalizing the agreement; we expect this to happen next week. The agreement gives WMATA a full easement, with rights of demolition, to the circle for six years. In exchange, the Association will be given settlement monies, WMATA agrees to restore the circle to the same condition upon conclusion of construction, and WMATA will work with our Association and the City to permit and build a pocket park to mitigate the impacts to the community.

We are waiting to hear back from WMATA on a timeline for when the circle will be demolished, but don’t expect it to happen until at least June. We have questions out to WMATA and the City Attorney to clarify the process and timeline.

Again, more details will be forthcoming soon.

Best regards,
Ron Lafond
President, PG HOA Board of Directors
