The following is an update from our neighborhood’s PYMIG liaison, Steve Crime.

There are three items of interest to share with the Community:
1. The next Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group (PYMIG) meeting will be held at 7pm in the Charles Houston Rec Center, 901 Wythe St, on Monday, January 27, 2020. The PYMIG functions as a forum for the public outreach process through station opening. The PYMIG considers a variety of issues that will arise as the project moves through design and construction. These meetings are open to the public and you are urged to attend. The agenda for the 1/27 meeting is available here: 2020-01-27 PYMIG Agenda
2. There will be a Community Meeting on the Metrorail project for Potomac Greens residents at the Charles Houston Rec Center on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at 7 pm. You will be provided a short history of the Metrorail project to acquaint newer residents with the project’s background. A discussion of the impacts we can expect during construction and when the station is complete will follow. Lastly, there will be an open question and answer session with representatives from the City and the builders.
3. Demolition of the circle has resumed now that Dominion Power has finally removed the eastern streetlight and should be complete in about a week. The streetlight prevented the builders from demolishing the portion of the traffic circle within the orange construction down to the underlying soil. Asphalt paving will then be installed over the exposed soil to complete the new 3-way intersection; however, paving asphalt requires a moderate temperature so it may lag depending on weather. The intersection will have stop signs installed for north-bound and south-bound traffic on Potomac Greens Drive (PGD) where it intersects with Carpenter Rd. Those stop signs will be in addition to the current Stop sign where Carpenter Rd. intersects PGD (see below). Work on the pocket park will begin in February when the planters are delivered. The associated plantings will not be installed until closer to spring planting season.
