12/26/2019, Potomac Yard Metro Station Construction Update

The following is an update from our neighborhood’s PYMIG liaison, Steve Crime.

There are three items of interest to share with the community:

1. Traffic Circle. As you know, final demolition of the traffic circle has been delayed because the builders (PYC) are waiting for Dominion Power to remove the streetlight in the eastern part of the circle. I reached out to City officials and PG HOA President Ron Lafond reached out to State Senator Adam Ebbin seeking their assistance in moving the process forward. On Friday, 12/20, we heard from Senator Ebbin’s office that Dominion Power will remove the streetlight on 1/20 (and will try to advance that if possible). Based on a firm removal date, we asked PYC to remove the dumpster and backhoe from the traffic circle. PYC complied on Monday, 12/23.

2. Site Preparations. PYC placed approximately six pieces of heavy equipment into the fenced area in the north park to clear vegetation from the site of the future Metro station. Fill dirt will then be placed to level the site so station construction can begin. Since so few workers are involved in this stage of the process, there is room for them to park their vehicles within the fenced area of the north park.

3. Upcoming Meeting. I intend to hold a meeting for all our residents in between late January and mid-February. The purposes are to acquaint newer residents with the background of the station, answer questions from all residents, and provide the latest construction schedules. The Communications Committee will notify residents when the date, time, and location of this meeting firm up.
