Board Update on COVID-19 & Metrorail Construction Update – 3.23.2020

Dear neighbors–

This is a reminder from the Board that the Governor of Virginia has declared both a State of Emergency and, in conjunction with the Health Commissioner, a Public Health Emergency Order due to the threat of the novel coronavirus. Under this order, gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited. The order impacts both public and private gatherings. We have people in our community who could be at increased risk of catching the virus if it spreads through Potomac Greens. Given these factors, the Board does not support any public gatherings of 10+ people in the community at this time.

We ask for your cooperation in this matter, and look forward to joining everyone together again when conditions allow.

All best–
PG HOA Board of Directors

The City has canceled the March 31, 2020, PYMIG Meeting because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the meeting was to examine the financial costs of two options to improve and enhance access to the new Metro from the southwest (Potomac Yard side). The PYMIG would then recommend a preferred option to the City Council.  The City would pay the cost of the improvement using a $50M grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia expressly provided to improve access to the station.

City Staff has completed a cost analysis of the two options in conjunction with WMATA and the builders.  Based on the cost analysis, City Staff has recommended the PYMIG select Modified Option #1 (Mod #1), a building at Glebe Road with stairs and elevators up to a raised bridge 530 feet long that connects to the pedestrian bridge to the station.  The memorandum containing the City Staff’s depictions and analyses of the two options, and their recommendation to the PYMIG, follows:

The City Staff has asked PYMIG members to discuss the recommendation with their constituents and provide input.  The City’s recommended option seems to make the most sense for our residents because it:

  1. will not affect the residents of Potomac Greens,
  2. is the preferred option for the residents of Potomac Yard,
  3. can be completed within the $50M grant (which can only be used to improve station access),
  4. provides easier access for mobility-impaired individuals, and
  5. can be completed within the current construction timeline.
