3 Public Safety & General Welfare Issues

The PG HOA Board would like to remind residents of three issues related to public safety and the general welfare of our community.

1. Pets. The City Code of Alexandria and the Potomac Greens Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CCRs) contain rules for owners with pets. City Code states owners must keep pets on a leash or carry them in all City parks, playgrounds, and public areas (Sec. 5-7-33.1 and Sec. 5-7-35). The CCRs have identical requirements for all common areas (CCR page 45, Article IV, 2(g)). Additionally, the City Code and our CCRs require owners to clean up any solid waste deposited by their pets.

2. Parking in Alleys. Our CCRs state that parking is not permitted in the alleys at any time (CCR page 44, Article IV, 2, (f), (i)). Additionally, the City of Alexandria has posted signs at every alley entrance noting it has an emergency vehicle easement over the alley, and parking is not permitted. Residents who violate the City easement are subject to having City parking enforcement ticket or tow their vehicle. Even worse, violators may prevent emergency vehicles from responding to an emergency at a home in our neighborhood.

3. Parking on City Streets. The City Code of Alexandria prohibits parking on City streets within 20 feet of an intersection (Sec. 10-4-41) or within 15 feet of a fire hydrant (Sec. 10-4-42). Cars parked within 20 feet of an intersection can obscure the vision of pedestrians to oncoming traffic and the vision of drivers to pedestrians attempting to cross the street. Cars parked within 15 feet of a fire hydrant can impair the ability of emergency vehicles to respond to a fire.

Thanks for your attention to these matters and your help keeping our neighborhood safe!

All best–
The PG HOA Board
