Reference: Potomac Yard Metrorail Station  |  Contract No. FQ16146

Subject:  Noise Variance Permit – August 2021 – Communications and Signal Upgrades

Residents:

Potomac Yard Contractors (PYC) has been issued a noise variance for the overnight installation of communications and signal upgrades between August 13 and 16. Activity will take place along the WMATA Roadway (tracks) along to Potomac Greens Dr. with operational support activity occurring at the 2601 Main Line Blvd. site.  This includes installation of cable trough, conduits, and ballast. Equipment will consist of excavators, train engines and trailers, welders, generators, light plants, and hand tools.

Dates of Work: August 13th through August 16th
Work Hours: 6:00pm Friday to – 7:00am Monday
Activity: Communications and Signals Upgrades
Location:  On WMATA Roadway (tracks), but sites on Carpenter Road, Potomac Greens Drive, and Main Line Blvd will be operational for support work

What Residents Can Expect:

  • Site Wide: Excavator, train, light tower, and dump truck noise throughout the night. PYC will do its best to ensure the light towers are in place during daytime hours, but this work will move along the WMATA tracks, so relocation of equipment will be required throughout  the night. Without compromising a safe working environment, the light towers will be pointed away from residents’ homes as much as practicable.
  • At 2601 Main Line Yard: Employee parking, use of office facilities, generators, movement of equipment,  loading/unloading trucks.
Additional construction information, including a list of permitted and proposed before and after-hours construction dates, is available on the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station Construction webpage.
Metro service delays may occur in conjunction with WMATA Roadway construction. The City encourages residents to consultWMATA’s Planned Metrorail Track Work webpagefor information on service changes prior to travel.
