PYC Overnight Noise Variance for Feb. 4 – Mar. 4

Dear Potomac Yard Residents and Businesses,

Potomac Yard Contractors (PYC) has been issued a noise variance for the excavation, backfill, compaction, ballast placement, and installation of Train Control circuits and signalization within WMATA roadway (tracks) from Friday, February 4 at 6 PM to Friday, March 4 at 7 AM. Activity will take place at the Station, North Pavilion site, and within the WMATA roadway.

Please reference and disseminate the attached notice (info from attachment is below) from the project contractor Potomac Yard Constructors (PYC) regarding the work planned for this time. This notice is also posted to Potomac Yard Metrorail Station Plans and Permits.

Additional construction information, including a list of permitted and proposed before and after-hours construction dates, is available on the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station Construction webpage.

Metro service delays may occur in conjunction with WMATA Roadway construction. The City encourages residents to consult WMATA’s Planned Metrorail Track Work webpage for information on service changes prior to travel.

Subject:  Noise Variance Permit –February 2022

Residents:

Potomac Yard Constructors (PYC) has been issued a noise variance permit for night work as described below. The scope of work consists of excavation, backfill, compaction, ballast placement, and  installation of Train Control circuits and signalization for the new Potomac Yard Metro Station. This work will take place on and around the existing WMATA tracks. This work is required to take place at night due to WMATA regulations regarding work within the active roadway. Note, the work may not be continuous due to weather and availability of WMATA work windows.

Dates of work and anticipated activities:

February 4 through March 4: Excavation, backfill, compaction, ballast placement, and installation of Train Control circuits and signalization within WMATA roadway.

Work Hours: 6:00pm on Friday, February 4 through 7:00am on Friday, March 4. Work will be performed around the clock.

Activity: Excavation, backfill, compaction, ballast placement, and installation of Train Control circuits and signalization within WMATA roadway.

Location: Station and North Pavilion site area and the rail corridor.

What Residents Can Expect:

Work Site: Light tower, Heavy equipment, and Trucking noise throughout the weekend. PYC will ensure that, without compromising a safe working environment, the light towers will be pointed away from residents’ homes as much as practicable.

At 2601 Main Line Yard: Employee parking, use of office facilities, generators, loading and unloading of trucks with heavy equipment.
